Hi, in this article, we are going to see 2 Switch and 2 Socket Connection Diagrams. Here, we will learn how to connect two SPST switches with two five-pin sockets. This type of connection setup can be used in electrical configurations in homes, offices, and commercial spaces.

Components Used

  • Single Pole Switches - 2 PCs
  • Five Pin Socket - 2 PCs
  • Electrical Wires - Red for Live, Black for Neutral, and Green for Earthing
  • Modular Box to place the switch and sockets

Connection Procedure

  1. Connect the live wire from your main power source to the input terminals(bottom terminals) of both SPST switches.
  2. Connect the neutral wire from your main power source to the neutral terminals of both sockets.
  3. Connect the grounding or earthing wire to the earthing terminals of both sockets.
  4. Now connect the output terminal(top terminal) of each switch to the live terminal of each of their respective sockets.

Must follow the below Safety Precautions while making the connections, 
  1. Always turn off the main power supply before starting any electrical work.
  2. Use insulated tools to avoid electric shocks.
  3. Ensure that all connections are tightly secured to avoid loose contacts.
  4. Properly insulate all exposed wires with electrical tape.
  5. Test the circuit with a multimeter before plugging in any devices.

While making the two switch and two sockets connections you must ensure the proper switches and sockets load capacity or current ratings. For example, small chargers and lights require low amperage but high-power appliances like heaters or microwaves may require sockets rated for higher amperage.

Here, below are some examples given for selecting proper ratings of sockets and switches,

5A sockets and switches: Suitable for low-power devices (e.g., chargers, lamps).
10A sockets and switches: Ideal for medium-power appliances (e.g., fans, computers).
15A sockets and switches: Used for high-power devices (e.g., air conditioners, microwaves).
20A and above sockets and switches: For heavy-duty equipment (e.g., water heaters, washing machines).

Also, remember that adding a safety margin of about 20%-30% to your calculations will help accommodate fluctuations in power consumption and prevent overloading. For example, if your calculated current is 8A, choose a switch/socket rated for 10A.
