14-Pin Relay Pinout and Circuit Diagram(Latching or Holding)
Hey, in this article, we are going to see a PLA Type 14-pin Relay Pinout, Circuit, and Wiring Diagram. We will see the Latching or Holding Circuit using a 14-pin Relay. A 14-pin relay is basically an electromechanical switching device that typically has 14 pins or terminals for connecting to an electrical circuit. Among those 14 Pins, there are two Pins for Relay coil and the other 12 pins for Contact Terminals.
You will see that in some relays, there is a PN Junction diode across the coil pins to suppress voltage spikes that occur when the coil is de-energized. The complete set of the 14-pin PLA-type relay has a base and a relay module. Basically, we have to make the connection to the Base and plug in the relay module to the base. A 14-pin relay is also known as 4C/O Relay which means it has 4 commons and their respective outputs.
14-Pin Relay Pinout Diagram
Here, you can see the pinout diagram of a 14-pin Relay.
Coil Pins (Control Pins): These pins are used to connect the coil of the relay to the control circuit. When a voltage is applied across these pins, it energizes the coil. The magnetic field actuates the switch contacts of the relay. Generally, any relay has two coil terminals. Similarly, here the 14-pin relay also has two coil terminals. Pin no. 14 and pin no. 13 are the coil terminals where pin no. 14 is the Line or Positive(+) and pin no. 13 is the Neutral or Negative(-).
Common (COM) Contacts: This is the common connection point for the switch contacts, and it connects to one side of the load. It is the terminal that is common to both the normally open (NO) and normally closed (NC) contacts. The 14-pin relay has 4 common terminals which are Pin no. 9, 10, 11, and 12.
Normally Open (NO) Contacts: These are the switch contacts that are open (disconnected) when the relay is not energized but close (connected) when the relay is energized. The 14-pin relay has 4 Normally Open terminals which are Pin no. 5, 6, 7, and 8 respective to common terminals 9, 10, 11, and 12.
Normally Closed (NC) Contacts: These are the switch contacts that are closed (connected) when the relay is not energized but open (disconnected) when the relay is energized. The 14-pin relay has 4 Normally Closed terminals which are Pin no. 1, 2, 3, and 4 respective to common terminals 9, 10, 11, and 12.

Here, you can see the Latching or Holding Circuit Using a 14-pin Relay.
As per the above circuit diagram, when we push the On push button switch, all the bulbs will turn On. They will keep glowing until we press the Off push button switch.
As you can see in the above circuit diagram, we have used pins 8(NO) and 12(common) for Latching or holding circuits.
We have used pins 7(NO) and 11(common) for switching the R Phase power supply to the Red Bulb.
We have used pins 6(NO) and 10(common) for switching the Y Phase power supply to the Yellow Bulb.
We have used pins 5(NO) and 9(common) for switching the B Phase power supply to the Blue Bulb.
