Single Phase 2 Pole Contactor Wiring Diagram
Here, in this article, we are going to see the Single Phase 2 Pole Contactor Wiring Diagram and Connection Procedure. We know that the single-phase system has two wires - Phase and Neutral. In a 2-pole contactor, there are two sets of contacts that operate simultaneously. This means that when the contactor is energized, it closes both sets of contacts at the same time. These two two sets of contacts are used for two wires of a single-phase system.
Single-phase 2-pole contactors are used in various applications, such as controlling the power supply to a single-phase motor, Lighting Circuit, Machinery Control, etc. When a voltage is applied to the coil of the contactor, it creates a magnetic field that pulls the contacts together, closing the electrical circuit and allowing current to flow to the connected load. When the voltage to the coil is removed, the contacts spring back to their normally open position, cutting off the power.
There are different types of contactors are available according to the coil supply voltage, current conduction capacity, etc. Remember that unlike a Three-phase or 3 Pole Contactor, the single-phase or 2 Pole contact does not have any auxiliary contacts that we can use for our control circuits.
Wiring Diagram
Here, in the below wiring diagram, you can see the connection of a single phase 2 Pole Contactor with a single phase motor that will help you to understand the connection procedure of a 2 Pole Contactor.
Components Used
- A Single Phase MCB
- A Single Phase RCCB
- A Single Phase 2 Pole Contactor(230V AC Coil Supply)
- An NC Push Button Switch and a NO Push Button Switch
- A Single-phase Motor
Connection Procedure
- First of all, the main input power supply terminals are to be connected to the input of the single-phase MCB.
- The Output of the MCB is to be connected to the Input of the RCCB.
- The Output of the RCCB is to be connected to the Input of the contactor.
- The Output of the contactor is to be connected to the motor.
- Now, the neutral terminal of the contactor coil is to be connected to the neutral terminal of the power supply directly.
- Now connect the both NO and NC push button switches in series.
- Connect one terminal of this series combination(input of NO switch) to the phase terminal of the power supply.
- Connect another terminal of this series combination(output of NC switch) to the phase terminal of the contactor coil.
- Also, connect the input terminal of the NC switch to the Phase terminal of the Power output terminals of the contactor. This is for the contactor holding the circuit.
Operation Procedure
- First of all, turn On the MCB.
- Then Turn On the RCCB.
- Now, once you press the NO push button switch the contactor will close and the motor will start running.
- Now, if you press the NC push button switch the contactor will open and the motor will stop.
Working Principle
Here, the single-phase MCB is used to protect the circuit from Overload and Short Circuit Faults. If the connected load(here motor) draws over current or any short circuit fault happens within the Circuit, the MCB will trip and disconnect the power supply.
Here, the single-phase RCCB is used to give protection against leakage current fault, ground fault, and electric shock. When there is any unwanted current flow from the phase terminal to any other path instead of neutral the RCCB will trip and disconnect the power supply.
You can see the contactor coil is connected to the power supply through the series combination of both NO and NC switches. So when we press the NO switch the circuit gets completed and the contactor coil gets the power supply. Once the contactor coil gets the power supply, the contactor will close its main contacts and the motor will start running.
Here, the output of the NO switch is also connected to the Output of the contactor. That means when the contactor is turned On the coil will get supplied directly from the contactor output. So, the power supply to the contactor coil will not be disconnected even if we release the NO switch.
When we press the NC push button switch, the power supply to the contactor coil will be disconnected and the contactor will open, and the motor will stop running.
