IR Remote Control Light (On/Off) Circuit Diagram

Here, in this article, we are going to build an On/Off Light Control using IR Remote. We see the circuit diagram, component list, connection procedure, working principle, etc. Creating an infrared (IR) remote control circuit to turn a light on and off is a popular electronics project. It involves using an IR remote control transmitter to send signals to an IR receiver connected to the light circuit.

An IR remote control light (on/off) circuit has numerous practical applications in various fields. For example, Home Lighting Control is one of the most straightforward applications. You can control indoor and outdoor lights. It allows you to conveniently turn them on or off from a distance. It is also useful for controlling bedroom lights without having to get out of bed, making it convenient for bedtime or early morning lighting adjustments.

IR Receiver TSOP1738: The IR receiver module TSOP1738 receives the IR signals from the remote control transmitter and outputs corresponding electrical signals.

IC NE555: The NE555 timer IC can be used to generate clock pulses for the CD4017 IC and timing functions in the circuit. It receives the electrical signal from the IR receiver and provides clock pulses to the IC CD4017.

IC CD4017: The CD4017 is a decade counter/divider IC that can be used to sequence the states of outputs in response to clock pulses. In this circuit, it can be used to control the relay and the light bulb.

Transistor BC547: The BC547 NPN transistor is used to amplify and control the current to drive the relay.

9V DC Operated Relay: The relay is used to switch the high-voltage AC component (light bulb) using a low-voltage DC control signal.

IC 7805: Here, we have used a 9V DC power source. The IC 7805 is a voltage regulator that provides a regulated +5V supply voltage for powering the components in the circuit.

Operation

When you press a button on your remote. The IR remote control transmitter sends IR signals, which are received by the IR receiver TSOP1738.

The received signals are decoded, and the corresponding control signals are sent to the NE555 timer and CD4017 decade counter.

The CD4017 controls the BC547 transistor, which, in turn, controls the relay.

The relay switches the 230V light bulb, turning it on and off based on the received IR signals.
