Wire Voltage Drop Calculator for Different Materials
Here, in this Wire Voltage Drop Calculator, you can calculate the voltage drop of a Wire or Conductor for Different material types, temperatures, lengths, diameters, voltages, etc. Here, you can also calculate the resistance of the wire, the maximum allowing current for that wire or conductor, and what will be the receiving voltage when you transmit the power.
Wire Voltage Drop Calculator
How to Use This Calculator?
To use the above Wire Voltage Drop Calculator, follow the below steps:
1. Conductor Temperature: First of all, Select the desired conductor temperature from the drop-down menu. The default value is 20°C (68°F), but you can choose a different temperature if needed.
2. Wire Type: Select the type of wire from the drop-down menu. The default selection is "Copper," but you can choose a different wire type if required. Options include Copper, Aluminum, Carbon steel, Electrical steel, Gold, Nichrome, Nickel, and Silver.
3. Wire Diameter: Enter the wire diameter size. The default value is 16, but you can adjust it as per your requirement. Specify the unit of measurement by selecting AWG (American Wire Gauge), inch, or mm from the drop-down menu.
4. Wire Length: Enter the length of the wire. The default value is 20, but you can modify it according to your application. Specify the unit of measurement by selecting feet or meters from the drop-down menu.
5. Current Type: Select the type of current. The default selection is "AC Single Phase," but you can choose other options such as DC, AC 3 Phase (3 Wire), or AC 3 Phase (4 Wire) if applicable.
6. Voltage: Enter the voltage in volts. The default value is 220V, but you can change it to the desired voltage level.
7. Current: Enter the current in amperes. The default value is 5A, but you can adjust it as per your requirement.
8. Make sure you provided the required information accurately to get the correct voltage drop calculations.
9. Calculation: Now, Click on the "Calculate" button to perform the voltage drop calculation based on the provided inputs.
10. Reset: To clear the calculator and start over, click on the "Reset" button.
Results: The calculator will display the following results:
Voltage Drop in Volts: The calculated voltage drop across the wire.
Percentage of Voltage Drop: The percentage of voltage drop compared to the input voltage.
Wire Resistance: The resistance of the wire.
The voltage at the End: The voltage at the receiving end of the wire.
Power Loss: The power loss in the wire.
Maximum Allowable Current for this Wire: The maximum current that the wire can handle without exceeding a certain voltage drop.
Formula
Here are the electrical formulas used in the above calculator,
Ohm's Law: V = I * R
Voltage (V): The product of current (I) and resistance (R).
Resistance (R) Calculation:
R = (2 * res * len) / a
res: Resistance of the selected wire type.
len: Length of the wire.
a: Cross-sectional area of the wire.
Voltage Drop (Vd) Calculation:
Vd = I * R
Vd: Voltage drop across the wire.
I: Current flowing through the wire.
R: Resistance of the wire.
Percentage of Voltage Drop (Vdp) Calculation:
Vdp = (Vd / V) * 100
Vdp: Percentage of voltage drop.
Vd: Voltage drop across the wire.
V: Input voltage.
Voltage at the End (Vend) Calculation:
Vend = V - Vd
Vend: Voltage at the end of the wire.
V: Input voltage.
Vd: Voltage drop across the wire.
Power Loss Calculation:
PowerLoss = (Vd * Vd) / R
PowerLoss: Power loss in the wire.
Vd: Voltage drop across the wire.
R: Resistance of the wire.
Maximum Allowable Current Calculation:
MaxCurrent = (V * 0.03) / R
MaxCurrent: Maximum allowable current for the wire.
V: Input voltage.
R: Resistance of the wire.
