Digital Ammeter Wiring Diagram and Connection with CT
Hey, in this article we are going to see the Digital Ammeter Wiring Diagram and Connection with CT(Current Transformer). Here, we see both Single Phase and Three Phase Digital Ammeter Connections. These ammeters are used in electrical panels so they are also known as panel ammeters. Digital ammeters are those that show the value of current flow in digital form or numbers. There are different types of digital ammeters available in the market. Some of them need to be connected in series with the power source and load like a conventional ammeter. But these are not so much used. Here, we will see the connection of the digital ammeter which is used with CT or current transformer. We know that when we use the current transformer or CT we don't need to break the load connection. We just need to lay the load wire through the current transformer core.
Single-Phase Digital Ammeter Connection with CT
Here, you can see the connection diagram of Single-Phase Digital Ammeter.
Connection Procedure
- Find out the power terminals of the ammeter. They are may available on the back side of the meter.
- Connect the 230V AC auxiliary power supply to the ammeter.
- Now find out the CT terminals in the ammeter. You will see there are two terminals for the CT connection.
- Connect the two terminals of the CT(current transformer) to the two terminals of the ammeter that are named as CT Terminals.
- Now lay down only the phase wire of the single power system through the CT.
- Now, your connection is ready, when the current flow through the phase wire the ammeter will show the current reading. Remember that, the 230V auxiliary supply should be turned on for all the time.
Three-Phase Digital Ammeter Connection with CT
Here, you can see the connection diagram of Three-Phase Digital Ammeter.
Connection Procedure
- Find out the power terminals of the ammeter. They are may available on the back side of the ammeter.
- Connect the 230V AC auxiliary power supply to the ammeter.
- Now find out the CT terminals in the ammeter. You will see there are a total of six terminals for the CT connection. Here, three CTs need to be connected. Each CT needs two terminals. Individual CT terminals are identified in the ammeter like CT1, CT2, CT3 or Φ1, Φ2, or Φ3.
- Now you have to connect all three CTs to the digital ammeter by maintaining phases and CT terminals respectively. For example, the CT1(which measures the R phase current) should be connected to the CT1 or Φ1 terminals. See the above wiring diagram for a better understanding.
- After connecting CTs, lay down all three phases through all the CTs respectively. For example, the 'R' phase wire should go through CT1, the 'Y' phase through CT2, and the 'B' phase through CT3.
- Once you complete the connection properly, you will able to see the reading current flow through each phase individually on the digital ammeter as it has three individual displays for three phases.
