How to do Wiring Lights in Parallel Connection? Procedure, Diagram
Hey, in this article we are going to know How to do Wiring Lights in Parallel connections. There are two basic methods for connecting light bulbs -series connection and parallel connection. Both of them have their own advantages, disadvantages, and their specific applications. Although the parallel connection provides more reliability, efficiency, easy operation, etc. In our domestic and industrial sectors, everywhere light or electric bulbs are used for lighting. And the connection of lights, and methods is very important to know for an electrician or engineer. Proper knowledge of connection methods and their characteristics, will help with the new installation of lights or repair and maintenance.
Light Wiring in Parallel Connection
Here, you can see the wiring of lights in a parallel connection.
You can see here a total of three lights are connected in parallel. The neutral of each lamp is connected together and it is to be connected to the neutral of the power source. Also, the phase terminal of each lamp is connected together and it is to be connected to the phase terminal of the power source. In the parallel connection of light, you do not need to apply a higher voltage than the voltage of the individual light. Applying the same voltage as the light voltage rating can glow all the lamps connected to the circuit in parallel. The resistance of any individual lamp can not affect the whole circuit. Here, more wattage lamps can glow more. Also, the voltage across each lamp is equal. But, the current drawn by each lamp is not equal, it depends upon their own resistance and wattage rating.
Light Bulb Connection in Parallel with individual switches
Here, you can see the connection of light bulb in parallel with individual operating switches.
Connection Procedure
1. Connect the neutral terminals of all lamps together and also connect to the neutral terminal of the power source.
2. Connect any one terminal of each switch together and also connect to the phase terminal of the power source.
3. Connect the rest terminal of each switch to the rest terminal of each lamp.
4. Provide identification to each switch according to the connected lights.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Parallel Lamp Connection
Advantages
1. Does not require high voltage to operate multiple lamps together, applying voltage same as the voltage rating of the lamp can glow all the lamps.
2. Here, more wattage lamps can glow more.
3. Individual lamps can be operated by individual switches.
4. Provides higher efficiency and higher reliability.
5. Damaging of one lamp can not affect the other lamps.
Disadvantages
1. More wire is required for the wiring connection.
Nowadays, all the house wirings and lighting systems use parallel connection methods for the light connection. Parallel connection helps for the operation of light as well as maintenance or repair. In a series connection, if you want to repair or change a light then you need to turn off the power supply of the whole circuit, but in a parallel connection, if you want to repair or replace a light then you just need to turn off the switch of that light.
