All Types of Circuit Breaker Symbols and Diagrams
A Circuit Breaker is an electrical protective device that breaks the circuit when an electrical fault such as a short circuit fault, overload fault, leakage, or any other fault occurs. The circuit breaker provides the function to turn on or turn off manually in normal conditions and turn off automatically in the faulty condition.
There are a lot of applications for circuit breakers in switchgear systems, electrical lines, electrical devices, etc. There are so many types of circuit breakers available and they are categorized by arcing medium, current rating, voltage ratings, response time, working principle, etc. Anyway, you must know all the basic symbols of circuit breakers.
The different types of circuit breakers are,
- Normal Circuit Breaker
- Non-Draw Out Circuit Breaker
- Draw Out Circuit Breaker
- Threaded Circuit Breaker
- Single Pole Circuit Breaker
- Double Pole Circuit Breaker
- Three Pole Circuit Breaker
- Isolator Circuit Breaker
- Cartridge Circuit Breaker
- Air Circuit Breaker or ACB
- Oil Circuit Breaker or OCB
- Vacuum Circuit Breaker or VCB

Basic Symbol of Circuit Breaker
Before, going to know different types, you must know the basic symbol of circuit breaker. Because this is only mostly used everywhere.
Non-Draw Out Circuit breaker symbol
Here you can see the symbol of non-drawout circuit breaker. Non-draw-out circuit breakers are those, during maintenance the current flow through them should be stopped. Here, we cannot bypass the current.
Draw-Out Circuit Breaker Symbol
Here, you can see the symbol of draw-out circuit breaker. Draw out circuit breakers are those, during the maintenance current flow through them is not required to stop. The current flow can be bypassed.

Threaded Circuit Breaker Symbol
Here, you can see the symbol of threaded circuit breaker.
Single Pole Circuit Breaker Symbol
Here, you can see the symbol of Single Pole Circuit Breaker. It is only connected to a single-phase conductor. It has one input line and one output line.
Double Pole Circuit Breaker Symbol
Here, you can see the symbol of double pole circuit breaker. A double pole circuit breaker is connected to one phase and one neutral or two phases. That means it has two input lines and two output lines.

Three Pole Circuit Breaker Symbol
Here, you can see the symbol of three-pole circuit breaker. Three pole circuit breaker is connected with three phases or live supply. It has three input lines and three output lines
Isolator Circuit Breaker Symbol
Here, you can see the symbol of isolator circuit breaker. It is also known as a circuit breaker with an isolator. Here, the breaker contacts operates automatically when the fault current occurs but we have to operate manually the isolator contact.
Cartridge Circuit Breaker Symbol
Here, you can see the symbol of Cartidge Circuit Breaker.
Oil Circuit Breaker(OCB) Symbol
Oil circuit breakers are those whose breaker contacts are immersed in oil to reduce the chances of sparking or ARC during the breaking and making operation.

Air Circuit Breaker(ACB) Symbol
Air circuit breakers are those whose contacts are open to air. Generally, low-voltage breakers are used like this.
MCB or Moulded Case Circuit Breaker Symbol
Here, you can see the symbol of Moulded Case Circuit Breaker or MCB.
Vacuum Circuit Breaker(VCB) Symbol
Here, you can see the symbol of Vacuum Circuit Breaker or VCB.
