Why Ceramic Capacitors mostly used in Electronic Circuit than others?
You may notice in many circuits, especially most of the electronic circuits use ceramic capacitors. In fact, ceramic capacitors are used more than electrolytic or other capacitors. In this article, you will find a lot of applications and uses of Ceramic capacitors and the advantages of Ceramic capacitors.
A ceramic capacitor is a type of capacitor that is manufactured using ceramic material as the dielectric medium. Ceramic capacitors can store a very small amount of electrical energy which is why they are available in very small values such as microfarad, millifarad, nanofarad, picofarad, etc.
Why Ceramic Capacitors mostly used in Electronic Circuits?
Ceramic capacitors have the following characteristics or advantages for which they are mostly used in electronic circuits.
1. Ceramic capacitors are available in very smaller sizes which is a great advantage. Because of many electronic circuits, in fact, most of the modern electronic circuits require small-size capacitors. It requires very less space so it is perfect to make a compact circuit.
2. Many important electronic circuits need very small-value capacitors. Ceramic capacitors are available in very smaller values. It is available in micro-farads to nano-farad ratings
3. Ceramic capacitors can provide very high stability, in fact, they offered many varieties of different stability. Ceramic capacitors are made using a ceramic material as the dielectric. Different types of ceramic materials, such as Class 1 (NPO/C0G) or Class 2 (X7R, X5R, etc.). Each of them offers varying levels of stability. Class 1 ceramic capacitors, particularly NPO/C0G, are known for their exceptional stability over a wide range of temperatures and frequencies. They provide minimal capacitance change with temperature and voltage variations that make them highly stable.
4. Ceramic capacitors have a very small temperature coefficient and higher voltage breakdown characteristics.
5. Ceramic capacitors are highly preferred or most suitable for high-frequency applications. They are mostly nonpolarized in nature.
6. The operating temperature range of the ceramic capacitor is more than other capacitors. From -55 degrees centigrade, to +150 degrees centigrade ceramic capacitors are available.
Applications and Uses of Ceramic Capacitors
1. Ceramic capacitors are used in electronic sensor circuits. Ceramic capacitors are commonly used as decoupling capacitors in sensor circuits. These capacitors are placed in parallel with the power supply lines of the sensor to provide high-frequency filtering and noise suppression.
2. Ceramic capacitors are used in electronic signal transmitter and receiver circuits. Ceramic capacitors are commonly used as coupling capacitors in transmitter and receiver circuits. These capacitors allow the AC (alternating current) signal to pass between different stages of the circuit while blocking any DC (direct current) component.
3. Ceramic capacitors are used in audio mixers, controllers, and equalizer circuits. Audio mixers, controllers, and equalizers often deal with a wide range of frequencies, including high-frequency signals. Ceramic capacitors have excellent high-frequency response characteristics, they can effectively process, pass and filter high-frequency audio signals without distortion or signal degradation.
4. Ceramic capacitors are used in frequency depended circuits such as electronic filter circuits, audio circuits, radio signal transmitters, and receiver circuits.
5. Ceramic capacitors are used in resonant circuits in the radio frequency communication system.
6. Ceramic capacitors are non-polarized which is why they are used in AC circuits also such as high voltage protection circuits, power circuit breakers, etc.
7. Ceramic capacitors are used in DC motors to minimize the radio frequency noise.
8. Ceramic capacitors are used as Bypass capacitors also. They provide a low-impedance path for the noise signal to flow to the ground and they bypass those noise signals to prevent them from interfering with the circuit's operation.
