There are mainly three types of motor,
- DC Motor
- AC Motor
- Universal Motor
The motor which can run on DC supply is called DC Motor.
The motor which can run on AC supply is called AC Motor.
The motor which can run on both AC and DC supply is called Universal Motor.

Advantages of Permanent Magnet DC Motor or PMDC Motor:
- This type of motor is very cheaper.

- Very low-voltage motors are available
Applications of Permanent Magnet Brushless DC Motor:
- The cooling fans of computers, laptops, and other electronic devices use Brushless DC Motors or BLDC Motors.
- There is a huge application of BLDC Motors in Drones.
Advantages of Permanent Magnet Brushless DC Motor:
- These are very energy-efficient motors.
- High output efficiency
- Very easy speed control
- Very fast acceleration
Applications of DC Series Motor:
- They are widely used in the traction system.
- DC series motors are used for cranes.
- They are used in blowers.
- They are used in elevators.
Advantages of DC Series Motor:
- High Starting torque.
- They have a self-regulating speed facility.
- Variable speed capacity also.
Applications of DC Shunt Motors:
- They are used in DC Fans.

Advantages of DC Shunt Motors:

Application of Compound DC Motor:
- They mainly used laboratories for research and other purposes.

- Synchronous Motor
Applications of Single-Phase Induction motor:
- Single-phase induction motors are used in ceiling fans, table fans, etc.
- These motors are also used in Refrigerators.
- Modern Mixers and other home appliances use single-phase induction motors.
- In modern blowers, these types of motors are used.
Advantages of Single-Phase Induction motor:
- They have very simple in construction.
- High efficiency.
- Reliable
- Compact in size.
Applications of Three Phase Induction motor:
- Nowadays in traction system Induction motors are used.
- In heavy engineering industries, these types of motors are used.
Advantages of Three-Phase Induction Motors :
- They are self start motors.
- They have not any brush mechanism.
- Lighter than other motors for the same rating.
Applications of Shaded-Pole Induction Motor:
- They are used in some machine tools.
- They are used in the refrigerator with the deep freeze fan.
Advantages of Shaded Pole Induction motor:
- They have adjustable speed facilities.
- It does not need the capacitor for starting.
- They have no brush mechanism.
Applications Synchronous Motor:
- They are used for power factor improvements.
- They are used in analog clocks.
- They are also used in tape recorders.
Applications of Universal Motors:
- Universal motors are used in hair dryers.
- They are also used in vacuum cleaners.
