How universal mobile battery charger work?

1. At the first stage, a half-wave rectifier (using a single Diode) converts AC to DC.

2. An electrolytic capacitor is used to filtrate the DC output. Remember that this is 230V DC.

3. Next, an Oscillator circuit consisting of a Transistor, Zener Diode, PN Junction Diode, and Capacitor is used to Oscillate the DC output of the rectifier.

4. The Oscillating signal is fed to the step-down transformer. The transformer steps down the voltage. The transformer has two primary winding and one secondary winding.

5. Then again the output of the transformer is converted into DC.

6. An electrolytic capacitor is used to filtrate DC and a Zener Diode is used as a voltage regulator.

In this circuit, the IC is used to control the LEDs which indicate charging, charging level, etc.
